Girls Uniform Pleats

When you browse the web searching school uniform for girls, you will find the beautiful pleated dress, pleated skirts, pleated pinafore, and much more; but when you implement that design in your school it somehow doesn’t meet your expectation. Do you feel the same?

In this article, we will provide you imperative tips which your uniform supplier won't ever share.

Initially, we need to understand our market sentiments, the majority population in India and even school administration is not in favor of uniform dresses above knee level. Some parents buy uniforms a few inches below knee level, resulting in a midi. Uniform skirts images that you see on the web are mostly above keen level, other dresses and pinafore styles are up to knee level. But how much does it matter? It matters the most, and uniform manufacturers need to appropriately adjust their cutting patterns to ensure they meet the market sentiments as well as provide the ideal look.

Factors a uniform manufacturer and school admin need to consider before production.

1. Uniform Fabric

Choose your fabric keeping in mind the age group to ensure maximum comfort. Avoid using trendy suiting for the age group below 6 to 8 years. Your fabric should be smooth and soft, selecting the right fabric will ensure your pleats settle and fall better. But how to check if the fabric is good for pleats?

Tip – Fold the fabric vertically in an upward direction into half and attempt to define a boundary with your nails or any sharp item on the overlap. This will give you a reasonable piece of thought if the creases settle well with the texture or not.

2. Unform Style

Use elegant design, choose from the many pleats styles available in the market. Remember, if you don’t want to spend much on your uniform then go for an A-line skirt/pinafore design.

Tip - If your budget is tight and pleated uniform is what you prefer, then choose 3 pleat designs, this will keep your uniform price low and ensure they look elegant.

If budget is not a problem, then you have a whole lot of styles to choose from. Rayray has a good collection of 3 pleat designs, contact us if you are looking for one.

3. Adjusting your cutting pattern

Without getting too technical let us explain what it means, remember we discussed understanding the market sentiments. When parents demand long uniforms or a size or two bigger, especially in the case of pinafore or frock design their waistline shifts below the required level, this has a major impact on the look of the garment.

Tip – A pinafore or a frock has 2 parts, body and flair. Use a smaller size body and increase the length of the flair to scope the required length. In the case of size 28 use a body pattern of size 26 and increase the flair length of size 28.

4. Ensure sufficient fabric is used for pleats

This is the talk of the town; Do you feel that your uniform supplier is not using sufficient fabric for pleats. The sample uniform looks good, but the actual production sizes look different. How to check the same and how much fabric should be sufficient?

Tip – Ask for samples in all sizes and measure the circumference of the flair. Then check the circumference of the actual production. It's not that difficult, right?

But how much fabric is sufficient for pleats? This depends upon your fabric and pleat style. The more pleats you will need to use more fabric.

Tip – For a UKG 4 box pleat frock our flair circumference is 72 inches. Compare the same with your uniforms.

5. Length of the Uniform

Schools should have a strict uniform policy and clearly mention the length of the uniforms to the uniform distributor and parents. The ideal length is where the knee bends. This will ensure the uniforms not only look good but also don’t outgrow.

Tip – Ask your uniform seller to keep a hem of 2.25 inches.
